Chilapata Forest


The drive to Cooch Behar through the dense natural forest of Chilapata, 20 km from Alipurduar near Jaldapara is enthralling, the ruins of 1000 year old fort of Nal King are of great archaeological importance, The dense forest is a natural habitat to a wide variety of carnivores, herbivores, , birds, reptiles, etc. 

Excursion to Chilapata Forest and Nolrajar Ghor can be undertaken in a day trip . Chilapata Forest is also  just a few minutes away from Hasimara town.This forest is used by the Elephants as a corridor to migrate from between Jaldapara and the Buxa Tiger Reserve and ultimately to Bhutan.

The Rabha tribal community inhabiting the villages in Chilapata is well known for their bamboo crafts and weaving,  A half day safari is conducted for tourists to explore the place.
